With the advent of the cold weather, getting out and about presents additional challenges. Freezing temperatures, ice and snow, tend to keep me home under a blanket and with a hot chocolate, if possible.
However, I am here to tell you that there are many reasons to bundle up and go see this fabulous exhibition. That is, if you are fortunate enough to be in the Manhattan area during the holiday season.
Learning about the work of Hilma af Klint might not be on your short list of things to do during the dead of winter, but once you see these ethereal watercolors in person, you’ll be mesmerized. They are enchanting!
Her body of work is extensive, with truly beautiful, delicate and free flowing drawings and paintings. Her images are a delicious mix of prayer and meditation, and even today they retain a prophetic and modern quality.
For an introspective parenthesis from the frenzied pace of the holidays, visit the David Zwirner Gallery and become acquainted with the wistful beauty of Klint’s pieces.
